Mayor praises local lifeguards for successful rescue efforts at Clonea Beach
Earlier this week, lifeguards and emergency services carried out a rescue operation at Clonea beach, successfully assisting swimmers who got into difficulty in the water.
Rescue 117, RNLI and the National Ambulance Service responded to the incident.
This morning, the Mayor of Waterford and local councillors praised the work of the lifeguards on duty and emergency services for successfully responding to the incident.
Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Liam Brazil, said: "At Clonea beach, there were two people saved from the water by our lifeguards and I’d like to thank them for that. It is so important to have them.
Cllr Catherine Burke added that lifeguards and emergency services do an “amazing job, especially when our beaches are so busy.”
“Those people deserve serious praise. They work really hard, especially over the summer months” Cllr Burke added.
The Waterford Safety Ireland Waterford branch is reminding the public that a Red Flag means do not swim.
“Please obey the lifeguards” the organisation said in a social media statement.
