Man who failed to pay court-ordered donation is fined at Waterford District Court
The case was heard at Waterford Courthouse.
A Tramore man who failed to pay a court-ordered donation has been fined €400.
Ian Daly (35), of Lisselan, Tramore, had been given a chance previously at Waterford District Court when he was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and threatening and abusive behaviour contrary to Section 4 and 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994.
The charges related to an incident on the Turkey Road, in Tramore, on December 27, 2024.
Judge John Cheatle had ordered the defendant to pay €100 to the Garda Benevolent Fund and he would put the matter back for review.
However, the court was told on the review date before Judge Fiona Brennan that the money had not been paid.
Acting for the defendant, solicitor Ken Cunningham acknowledged that the judge had given his client a chance and said that it was “disappointing” it had not been paid.
The court heard that on the night of the incident, the defendant had been thrown out of a club for bad behaviour.
When gardaí approached him, he became aggressive and told them to “f**k off”.
Gardai had attempted to calm the man but eventually deployed incapacity spray and the man was arrested.
He later apologised for his behaviour, the court was told.
As the €100 had not been paid, Judge Brennan fined the defendant €250 for threatening and abusive behaviour and €150 for being intoxicated in a public place.
