Man stole thousands of euro from ex-girlfriend and friend
Judge Staunton said that only appearing with an additional €100 was “absolutely insulting” and described the offences as “a disgusting performance” and as “horrible thefts”.
A local man appeared in Waterford District Court last week in relation to stealing thousands of euro from his ex-girlfriend and his friend.
21-year-old Joshua Maher, of Fahee, Kilmacow, Co. Kilkenny, was charged with multiple counts of theft, contrary to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act 2001, for repeatedly stealing money from his former partner whilst they were in a relationship together.
On one occasion, he stole a large sum of money from her purse at her home address.
Money was taken on an ongoing basis.
On a separate occasion, Mr. Maher stole a credit card which belonged to his friend.
He subsequently withdrew €500 using the card.
He was later arrested and made full admissions.
During the court proceedings before Judge Kevin Staunton, the court heard that the man had paid back €1,200 to date.
He showed up to court with an additional €100 in compensation.
Judge Staunton said that only appearing with an additional €100 was “absolutely insulting” and described the offences as “a disgusting performance” and as “horrible thefts”.
Mr. Maher received a series of 10-month sentences on the charges, which are to run concurrently.
