A matter heard in Waterford District Court last week concerned the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl.

It is alleged that the incident occurred on an unknown date between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2018.

The injured party alleges that the incident occurred when she was in her brother’s bedroom, that a friend of her father came in and started rubbing her back and buttocks.

She alleges that the incident ended with the defendant saying he had too much to drink.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is being charged with sexual assault contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Law (Rape) Act 1990.

Judge Kevin Staunton accepted jurisdiction over the matter.

The case will be raised for mention on March 24.
