Waterford Courthouse

A man appeared in Waterford Courthouse last week for hurling insults at Gardaí during an incident at Treacy’s Hotel on Merchants Quay in Waterford city.

On February 15, 2025, Gardaí entered the hotel responding to a separate incident.

Whilst there, Mark Hurley, of 3 Dunmanus Crescent, Knocknaheeney, County Cork, began verbally harassing them.

The 31-year-old referred to a garda who was present as a “pig b*stard” and a “pr*ck”.

He also told gardaí to “f*ck off.”

Hurley was on bail over a separate and more substantial matter, the court heard.

Whilst in court last week, Mark Hurley pleaded guilty to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, for engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour in a public place.

Judge Kevin Staunton, presiding over Waterford District Court, applied Section 1(1) of the Probation Act.
