Man appears in court over 'catastrophic' collision, which occurred in Waterford in 2023
Very serious injuries occurred as a result of the road traffic incident.
A man appeared in Waterford Courthouse last week regarding his involvement in a very serious road traffic incident, which occurred in August of 2023.
The incident occurred at approximately 5.30pm on the R681 road at Ballmurrin, Kill, County Waterford, and involved a collision between a jeep and a motorcycle.
Very serious injuries occurred as a result of the road traffic incident.
The driver of the motorcycle, Pearse Sherwin, of 4 Whitewell, Chapel Road, Stradbally, appeared before Judge Christopher Callan at a Waterford District Court Appeals hearing last week to appeal two charges he received convictions on, in connection with the incident.
He appealed charges of driving without holding a driving licence, and driving in a manner which was dangerous to the public.
The incident in question was described as “catastrophic” during last week’s court proceedings.
During the proceedings, new evidence in the form of maps were issued by the State.
The court also heard that complex software and technology was being used to analyse CCTV footage frame by frame to establish vehicle speeds.
Therefore, Mr. Sherwin’s defence counsel requested that this new evidence be checked by an engineer before matters proceed further.
The matter was adjourned until March 24.
