Judge John Cheatle accepted jurisdiction to Waterford District Court for the assault of the 20-year-old male, but refused to accept jurisdiction for the assault on the woman.

A man is alleged to have attacked a woman and her son at a premises in Waterford during a dispute that broke out over the Ukraine War.

The man is alleged to have committed two counts of assault causing harm.

It is alleged by the female injured party that she was in her home with her 20-year-old son at the time of the assault. It was approximately 3am, and she was cleaning up after a birthday party whilst her son slept in another room.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to have entered the scene, and a disagreement broke out with the woman over the Ukraine war. The man allegedly began dragging the woman and hitting her face. It is alleged that she received a fractured nose.

The court heard that the man then went into the room where the woman’s son was sleeping. He began shouting at him and hit him, causing his nose to bleed.

Judge John Cheatle accepted jurisdiction to Waterford District Court for the assault of the 20-year-old male, but refused to accept jurisdiction for the assault on the woman.

The man was remanded on continuing bail until July, when updates on the case will be heard.
