Tomas Marvanek, age 39, was charged with murder.

A man has been charged with the murder of Yveta Donovalova.

Tomas Marvanek (39), of Grange Heights, Waterford City, was charged and cautioned just after midnight on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Mother-of-three Yveta was found gravely injured at her home in Grange Heights on the evening of Monday, April 27, 2026. She was pronounced dead at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) a short time later.

On Wednesday evening, Marvanek appeared at Waterford District Court aided by a Czech interpreter. He was wearing a black hoodie and appeared to have red marks on his shaved head.

Judge Kevin Staunton heard from Detective Garda Sean Lane about the arrest and charge of Mr Marvanek. According to Det. Lane, after being charged with murder Marvanek said: “I have nothing to say.”

Solicitor Ken Cunningham requested that a Czech interpreter be provided at the next hearing. Mr Cunningham also requested that the accused be medically and psychologically evaluated on arrival. Judge Staunton accepted the application.

The issue of bail did not arise due to the Court’s jurisdiction.

Marvanek will appear via video link at Waterford District Court tomorrow (Tuesday), May 5.
