There are a number of different events taking place in Waterford and the south east over the coming days as part of Biodiversity Week, which runs from Tuesday, May 20, until Sunday, May 25.

A spokesperson for Waterford City & County Council said: "There are lots of brilliant free events being run across the county and country where you can learn more about wildlife, habitats and species in your local area."

Biodiversity Officers in each county are busy this year creating Biodiversity Action Plans and they will be collecting local information at these events.

"We have created an exciting programme of events this year in Waterford, we would love to see you join us," said the spokesperson.

This evening, Tuesday, May 20, there will be a 'River Glasha Walk' taking place from 6.30pm to 8.30pm from the Glenpatrick Loop car park.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 21, there will be a quiz time event in Tully's Bar, Waterford, from 6pm to 7.30pm and there will also be an online event titled, 'Not Stopping Now! For the Ocean' which will focus attention on whales and dolphins in Irish waters.

On Thursday, May 22, a 'B Corridor Event' workshop featuring Grace O'Sullivan will take place Woodlands Hotel from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and the following day a 'From Field to Fibre' workshop will take place in GOMA (Gallery of Modern Art), Waterford, from 1.30pm to 4pm.

Further along the south east coast, in the Stella Maris Centre in Kilmore Quay, in Co Wexford, there will be an event on Saturday, May 24, titled 'Coastal Dark Sky Communities'. A 'Connections Festival' the organisers are encouraging people from all coastal communities in the south east to go along with the event kicking off at 5pm.
