Fifty-two campervans descended on a residential area of West Waterford on the last bank holiday.

That is according to Councillor Joe O’Riordan at the June sitting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council.

Cllr O’Riordan said residents were upset by the intrusion into their space.

“I had quite a few representations from people who were quite intimidated to come out their door in the morning and find a campervan parked basically outside their front door and a number of campervans,” said Cllr O’Riordan.

Cllr O’Riordan was asking Waterford City and County Council to review the by-laws or erect signs to limit the inappropriate parking of campervans.

He said there is a fantastic campervan site already in the area.

“When you see something growing exponentially like 52 campervans, I don’t think it’s a look we want for the town. I personally don’t agree with it,” said Cllr O’Riordan.

Directors of Services for Roads, Gabriel Hynes, said they would look at the by-laws to see what enforcement would be possible.
