The closure of yet another local Waterford business in the hospitality sector has been met with great sadness by many in the community.

Glorious Sushi, based in Tramore, announced on their social media on Friday, May 31, that they would close their doors in what was "an extremely difficult decision".

Management said that after 13 years in business, the reason for closure was due to "increased costs", which many other recently closed businesses have been challenged by.

Glorious Sushi said the increasing costs of running a local business "made it impossible to continue".

The small business had embedded itself successfully in the community, and it supported many locals over the years, including its sponsorship of Villa Football Club for the past five years.

The reaction to the news of the closure, particularly by those involved in Villa FC, showed both gratitude and dismay.

Club member Stephen Cleere commented that he's "devastated", while adding, "Thank you so much for the past number of years with Villa. I've loved working with you and you'll be missed by everyone at the club.

"Best of luck with whatever the future holds for you."

Another message of support for the business claimed that Glorious Sushi "built a great business around a great product", but that rewarding these businesses for their hard work and dedication is "not how this country works at the moment".

Since the closure announcement, Glorious Sushi has continued to share many accolades and awards they received in their years of business, and they thanked "everyone who has been involved since the very first award".

Just some of the awards were from Blas na hÉireann, Waterford Business Awards, 11 consecutive McKenna Guide awards from as early as 2013 and many National Irish Food Awards.
