Local gather in Waterford for Miles for Mimi cancer awareness event

Participants get ready to take on the Miles for Mimi challenge in Ballyduff village
There was a great show of support in County Waterford recently for an event aimed at raising awareness around myeloma cancer.
September was especially dedicated to the awareness and research of myeloma cancer and Myeloma Ireland encouraged people to get out and be active for the month.
In the Ballyduff area of County Waterford, local woman, Mimi Laffan, who is fighting and winning the battle against myeloma, embraced the campaign and along with her friends in a 'Miles for Mimi' initiative that saw them clock up their own individual miles in addition to participating in group walks around the county.
There was a great show of support for the initiative in Mimi's home parish on Sunday, September 22, and one local commented: "It was wonderful to see so many of all ages gather outside St. Nicholas’s Church in Ballyduff and join in solidarity to walk those steps in support of the myeloma campaign."

Before leaving the village, Mimi spoke to those gathered and expressed her deepest gratitude to everyone who supported the campaign commenting that it gave her great encouragement. She gave a special mention to popular local resident, Dod Whelan, who passed away recently, commenting that he was a great support to her during her treatment and that she would never forget his kindness.
There was very positive air to the event as the group of walkers left the village amid cheers and laughter. The route took the participants past some beautiful local sights including Knockaderry Lake.
On their return to the village the walkers were treated in the community centre to an array of sandwiches, cakes and treats. It was a very positive event in support of someone who is herself very popular within the local community.
