Local disability service faces inspection from HIQA

Dungarvan Residential Services have been inspected by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA)
Overall, the inspection findings indicated that the residents that lived in the centre were well cared for, safe and had a good quality of life.
The facility was however found to be 'not compliant' in three of the inspection categories.
Dungarvan Residential Services is a registered residential disability service which provides long-term residential care and one transition respite bed for fifteen adults.
The designated centre comprises of three separate homes located in separate locations.
The provider of the facility is Carriglea Cáirde Services.
When asked directly by the inspector about living in the home, residents said that they 'liked' or 'loved' living there.
Residents appeared happy and content, were seen to freely move around their home and were seen to be very comfortable in each others presence.
Overall, there were systems in place to monitor the level of care and support being provided in the centre and residents were kept safe.
The centre was however marked 'not compliant' in three categories of inspection.
On the day of the inspection, the inspector reviewed information submitted by the provider to the Chief Inspector of Social Services with their application for renewal of registration of the centre.
It was found that the provider had failed to make the application in line with the required time frame
In relation to training and staff development, it was found that all staff had training in key areas such as safeguarding, fire safety, and manual handling.
However, no staff had training in managing diabetes and only six out of 14 staff had training in epilepsy.
The inspector also noted that the provider had not submitted all notifications in relation to the use of minor restrictive practices within the service and notifications in relation to suspected allegations of abuse.
The facility was marked 'substantially compliant' in the 'staffing' and 'premises' categories, with minor improvements needed.
It was marked 'compliant' in all other categories, including 'protection', 'health care' and 'fire protection'.
