Lismore Library launches new creativity programme

The launch event took place at Lismore Library.
Lismore Library has launched a new creativity programme for children in partnership with Waterford Sports Partnership and Healthy Waterford
The library's new Play Packs loan scheme will enable children across the Lismore community to take out carefully curated packs with toys, games, and sporting equipment suitable for children of various ages.
The library says the packs, which are packed with everything from toys and building blocks to puzzles and imaginative play sets, are designed to spark curiosity and encourage play.
The launch of the new scheme was attended by local councillors including Cllr. John Pratt, Cllr. Donnchadh Mulcahy, and Cllr. Niamh O'Donovan, who praised the commencement of the programme.

Debbie Johnston of Waterford City and County Libraries and Alan Butler of Waterford Library Lismore Branch noted that the new Play Packs scheme was inspired by the popularity of the Playful Streets and Communities projects developed by Waterford Sports Partnership and Waterford City and County Council in recent years.
Ms Johnson explained the Play Packs scheme "adds to our library’s offerings to the community. We have seen the popularity of the Playful Communities project over the years and wanted to enable libraries to become a service to offer these packs to the community for loan.”
Mr Butler added, “In consultation with Waterford Sports Partnership and Healthy Waterford, we carefully selected the items in each Play Pack to ensure they are age-appropriate and aligned with early childhood development principles.
"Our goal is to provide resources that encourage creativity, problem-solving, and social interaction," he said, "We are excited to see how these packs will inspire and engage the children of Lismore and West Waterford.”
The Playful Streets and Communities programme has benefitted 80 different communities across Waterford and was involved in the creation of the Play Packs sheme.
