Kilbarry ‘masterplan’ development moves forward with another proposed 99 units
Concept art shows the side view of an apartment block in the proposed development.
Vetra Construction Ltd have sought permission to build 98 units in Kilbarry. The development will consist of 20 four-bed seven-person units, 46 three-bed five-person units and a four-storey block consisting of a mixture of one and two-bed units.
The planning application comes as Vetra Construction Ltd look to build on a ‘masterplan’ for the area, with Vetra seeking planning permission for another 99-unit development in the adjacent area.
The ‘masterplan’ is intended to cover around 32 hectares of land. Lacken Road would act as the access point for the new development.
Within the masterplan area, there will be a proposed “1,000 pupil primary school of which is to be integrated alongside the permitted crèche to form a future educational campus.”
The original development proposed by Vetra describes the masterplan site as lying “within a transitional zone between suburban expansion and semi-rural/agricultural land, reflective of the changing landscape at the edge of the city’s urban footprint.
“Historically, the lands have been used for agricultural purposes and are characterised by mature hedgerows and defined field boundaries.”
The most recent development proposes building 190m of LIHAF (Local Infrastructure Housing Activation Fund) road to connect the site to the 260-unit Foxwood residential development that lies to the west.
K-Design Studio, a Kilkenny architectural firm, are listed as the "Master-planner and Architect" for the project.
