West Waterford Councillor Niamh O'Donovan, has called a littering incident in Tallow "absolutely disgusting", "childish" and "pure criminal."

In a post on social media, Cllr O'Donovan highlighted the incident where paper, including leaflets and bits of catalogue, were torn up and thrown around on New Line.

The councillor said it appeared "strategic" and not the first incident like this in that spot.

"Whatever is going on, whether it is a vendetta. Whether it is a point being proven. Something is happening. It's antisocial behaviour. It's disgusting, it really is," said Cllr O'Donovan.

In her post, Cllr O'Donovan also pointed out the impact these incidents have on local resources.

She said that the gardaí had been notified, as well as the Council and a worker will have to go and clean up the mess.

That worker will have to be re-assigned from something else to do so.

"That council worker may have even been needed to cut the grass in a green area for kids to play on this week. That green may not be cut now for another two or three weeks because they have another ream of jobs to do tomorrow, so it's not fair," she said.

"It's so immature, so childish. Be grown-ups, be adults, talk, communicate, use your words, grow up," added Cllr O'Donovan.

Previous incidents included a calendar with the dates ripped off, a pack of cards and a box of nails being dumped illegally.

Cllr O'Donovan has urged people in the area to keep an eye out for this behaviour and report it, anonymously if necessary.

"It's not okay, it's disgusting; it's pure criminal," said Cllr O'Donovan.
