Information is being sought on the final resting place of a County Waterford man who was regarded as a World War I hero.

Gerry Reid is carrying out research information and is trying to track down information on Thomas Morrissey, who was a resident of Lismore around 1919.

Commenting to Waterford News & Stat, Gerry said: "I'm trying to trace a former resident of Lismore who lived in the area around 1919. He was my grandfather, Peter Reid's best friend."

"The two men served together in the First World War and they were both stretcher bearers who won the military medal for bravery," said Gerry.

"His name was Thomas Morrissey, 7218 2nd Battalion Leinster Regiment, [and] he lived in New street," he added.

Mr Morrissey was born in 1887, but Gerry said he doesn't know where his final resting place it.

"I don't no where he is buried or if there are any relatives left in the area," said Gerry.

"Thomas and my grandfather Peter, are mentioned in the book ('Stand To') as the famous stretcher bearers, 'Reid and Morrissey', and carried out many brave acts throughout the war," he added.

Gerry is trying to find out any information he can with regard to what Thomas Morrissey did after the war.

"I would love to find out any information as to what Thomas did after the war, or if he had the fortune of having a good life after the war," he said.

"I would love to find out where he is buried so as I can visit his grave," he added.

Anyone who might have information about Thomas Morrissey can contact Waterford News & Star through brendan.keane@waterford-news.com and we will put you on touch with Gerry.

All help and information will be very much appreciated.
