With Ireland affected by strong winds and increased storm surge from the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto, Met Éireann’s High Tide Advisory warning remains in place until 12 noon on Friday, August 23.
A spokesperson for Waterford City and County Council said that while highest predicted tide levels will occur this evening, Thursday, August 22, at 8.05pm, in Waterford City and at 8.30pm in Passage East, the predicted surge is anticipated to be below critical levels.
"Waterford City and County Council’s severe weather management team will continue to monitor the situation and Council ground crews will be on stand-by to put in place flood mitigation measures if the need arises," said the spokesperson.
However, with a combination of strong onshore winds, there is potential for fallen trees, branches and debris on roads, making journeys hazardous. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and allow extra time for journeys and to be conscious of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

Waterford City and County Council is also advising the public to heed all public safety advice and stay away from exposed piers, harbours and sea walls as there is a significant risk of wave overtopping.
Members of the public can contact Waterford City and County Council’s Customer Services Desks on 0818 102020 during normal office hours after which calls will be transferred to the Council’s emergency services number.
