Helicopter and mountain rescue attend to injured walker on ridge above Waterford's Coumshingaun

South Eastern Mountain Rescue (SEMRA) along with Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 117 successfully attended to an injured walker on Coumshingaun last weekend.
SEMRA team members were gathered around Holy Year Cross in Clonmel on Sunday morning for a history lesson from a local resident.
Just as team members were getting ready to head for home, a call came in from An Garda Síochána about a walker with a leg injury in Coumshingaun.
The team quickly headed for Kilclooney in order to access the injured walker, who was high on the north ridge above the lake.
The Irish Coast Guard helicopter was contacted to see if they were available to assist, as the location of the walker meant it would be a long and very uncomfortable stretcher evacuation.
Rescue 117 was overhead at 3:30pm and deployed their winchman to assess the casualty and provide pain relief.
Rescue 117 then landed in a field near Kilclooney bridge to pick up two team members.
The team members were dropped to assist with the high-line operation when winching in the casualty.
The casualty was winched into the helicopter and was on their way to Waterford by 4:00pm.
Stand down was issued at 5:00pm and all team members got safely off the hill.
South Eastern Mountain Rescue are reminding walkers to be mindful when parking in forestry car parks.
“Kilclooney was extremely busy with cars parked along the road on the approach to the car park. We remind drivers to please not park their cars at barriers or anywhere that restricts access for emergency service vehicles.
"An ambulance if needed would not have fit through the barrier today because of a car parked there."
