Waterford spectacle company Spraoi is to perform in a parade and multi-arts celebration in Cardigan, Wales.
The event is being staged to mark the 850th anniversary of the first Eisteddfod held at Cardigan Castle in 1176.
The forthcoming event will take place on Saturday, June 27th.
The Eisteddfod is Wales’s premier festival of literature, music and performance, celebrating the nation’s language and culture.
Spraoi’s appearance at this prestigious event is a significant honour for the company and marks its first-ever street spectacle performance in Wales.
A spectacular procession featuring a giant puppet of Lord Rhys, created by Welsh performance company Small World Theatre, will parade through the streets of Cardigan.
That will form part of a week-long programme of cultural and community events across West Wales, directed by Marc Rees, leading up to the main festival.
Spraoi will perform with a family of giant wolves escorting Lord Rhys from his boat, as he makes his ceremonial journey to Cardigan Castle.
The company’s Welsh premiere is supported by Culture Ireland, Wales Arts International, and the Eisteddfod.
“This is a tremendous privilege for Spraoi to perform as part of the Eisteddfod’s 850th anniversary programme," said Spraoi Director, TV Honan.
"Our team of artists and technicians are excited to entertain audiences in Wales and to collaborate with cultural colleagues across the Irish Sea," he added.
He also expressed gratitude to those providing financial support for the trip, commenting: "Huge thanks to our funders for creating this international opportunity for us."
