Season of Creation events celebrate faith, nature and community in Waterford

A series of free community events celebrating faith, nature, and the environment will take place across Waterford and Tramore this September and October as part of the global Season of Creation initiative. 

Hosted by Federica Fanni and the parish community of St Joseph's, St Benildus' and St Mary's, the programme is built around this year's theme, "Living Water", and invites people of all ages to connect with nature through reflection, music, learning and celebration.

The first event, God with St Francis: Peace, Creation and Hope, takes place on Wednesday, September 9, at St Joseph's and St Benildus' Church on Newtown Road. Gospel singer James Kilbane will lead an evening of faith, music and reflection beginning at 7.30pm. Organisers stress that the event is a parish service rather than a concert and there is no admission charge. A voluntary collection will be taken on the night.

On Saturday, September 12, an outdoor prayer service will be held beside the river at the Waterford Teachers' Centre. The gathering will feature prayer, music and reflection focused on gratitude for water and the natural world.

Nature lovers can also take part in a guided walk of the Tramore Back Strand and dunes on September 26. Led by ecologist Katriina Bent, the walk will explore the area's unique habitats and wildlife while highlighting the importance of conservation. The walk is free and suitable for most abilities.

The series concludes on October 3 with a Blessing of Pets in the church car park on Newtown Road. Families are invited to bring their pets along for a short blessing service marking the feast of St Francis of Assisi.
