A night of cinema's most iconic music

The Piatti Quartet will play Barber's Adagio for Strings

Waterford Music is bringing the well-known London-based Piatti String Quartet to Waterford, to perform a programme of music largely inspired by the cinema.

The Piatti Quartet will play Barber's Adagio for Strings, which people will remember from the war film 'Platoon'.

They will also play music by Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, who composed the music for 'There Will Be Blood'.

Other film music featured on the programme includes 'The Mishima Quartet', by Philip Glass, from the film 'Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters' and Ravel's string Quartet, from 'The Royal Tenenbaums'.

Not all of the music is from cinema however, as the the quartet will play Shostakovich's String Quartet No 8.

The Piatti Quartet consists of Emily Holland and Michael Trainor on violin, Miguel Sobrinho on viola and Jessie Ann Richardson on cello.

The musicians are the resident quartet at King's Place, London. They have collaborated with Irish pianist Barry Douglas, St Martin's Voices and Ian Bostridge.

The concert will take place on Wednesday, March 11 at 7.30pm, in the Dr Mary Strangman Large Room at City Hall.

Tickets at the door or at waterford-music.org.
