Garda units continue to arrive at scene of arson attack in Waterford, four confirmed dead

Gardaí continue to arrive to the scene of Birchwood Estate in Waterford city, following a confirmed arson attack that has left four dead, including one adult male, one adult female and two of their children.

Two other children have been removed from the scene and are receiving hospital treatment for critical injuries.

Gardaí have confirmed that a murder investigation has commenced.

In the past hour, vehicles from the Garda Technical Bureau arrived at Birchwood. Forensic teams are also on site.

Door-to-door enquiries are being conducted.

A cordon remains in place, and the burnt residence is out of public view.
