Waterford gardaí have held a day of action to raise awareness of the laws around e-scooters and e-bikes.
Using just one of four Dynamometers in the country, the gardaí carried out checkpoints around the city.
Waterford gardaí said in a post on social media that a number of fixed penalty notices have been issued.
Last year, the laws on the use of e-scooters changed.
According to the RSA, users of e-scooters must be 16 or older and the speed limit is 20km/h.
The limit is slightly higher for e-bikes at 25km/h E-scooter and e-bike users must drive on the left and must have lights, bells or an audible warning device as well as brakes.
They must be roadworthy and riders must obey the same rules as cyclists.
E-scooter users must not use footpaths, pedestrianised areas or motorways.

They can’t have a seat or carry passengers or goods.
And users of e-scooters cannot be on their mobile phones.
Failure to abide by the law could see a user fined €50 for e-scooters and €40 for an e-bike, with the exception of failing to stop for a school warden, which carries a fine of €80 Today’s day of action checkpoints were located in the city centre and at SETU.
Gardaí on social media said the day of action is an “educational as well as an enforcement operation.”
