Free suicide prevention course to take place in county Waterford
will take place at the Cappoquin GAA pitch from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, March 21.
West Waterford Mental Health Awareness is to host SafeTALK training in Cappoquin.
SafeTALK is a suicide alertness and prevention course that teaches ordinary people to recognise the signs of suicide, start conversations and help connect them to supports.
West Waterford Mental Health Awareness Chairperson and Councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy said the group is committed to developing mental health initiatives.
“As a community, we have seen the importance of early intervention and simply having the confidence to ask someone if they are okay. It could make a real difference in someone’s life,” said Cllr Mulcahy.
The training will take place at the Cappoquin GAA pitch from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, March 21.
It is open to anyone over 18 and free with light refreshments provided.
West Waterford Mental Health Awareness was founded in response to tragedy in the community and has since grown into a proactive grassroots initiative delivering events, training programmes, public talks and awareness campaigns across the region.
The group continues to work closely with local organisations, schools and sports clubs to break stigma and promote positive mental wellbeing.
Places on the SafeTALK course are limited and booking is essential.
