The issue of water supply came up at several points during the meeting.

Residents in the Comeraghs are grappling with 'foul' smelling water and poor water service, according to local councillors.

At the recent meeting of the Comeragh Council, several councillors raised the issue of inadequate water supply in their areas.

Cllr Liam Brazil (Fine Gael) told the Council: "In Kilmacomma, on Pinewood Drive, that odour is still coming from the tank back there.

"I've said this previously, it's unacceptable that this is continuing on there."

Cllr Declan Clune (Independent) said: "Around Pinewood Drive, I asked that we contact the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and asked them to do a report on the water situation up there."

Cathaoirleach Seanie Power (Fine Gael) inquired into the recent boil water notices in Ballymacarbry.

Uisce Éireann

He said: "There's been huge issues with water there, on and off all summer.

"I have to hand it to the workmen out on the ground who go above and beyond the call of duty to get water back to them at all times."

Cllr Power referenced one worker going out on a call on a Saturday night, but cautioned that more and more staff are stepping away from Uisce Éireann.

He continued: "We're losing a lot of good men out there who were with Uisce Éireann, they're taking up council jobs in other areas of the Council rather than going with the water crowd.

"I know that Carrick-on-Suir, Tipperary Council have had huge issues with water outages."

Senior Executive at Waterford City and County Council, Dawn Wallace, responded: "Councillor Power, you mentioned boil water notices, as you know, that's the responsibility of Irish Water, so we wouldn't deal with that in the environment department."
