It was a case of a fond farewell in County Waterford recently when a local doctor and his wife retired from the practice they ran in Portlaw.
Dr Finnegan and his wife, Kate, were both present at the Portlaw Health Centre, on the day of the retirement to say farewell to all their clients and friends.
People from throughout the locality turned up in large numbers to wish them well in retirement and the huge respect and high regard in which they are held within the local community was underlined by the level of goodwill extended to them.
A large crowd was present, following their kind invitation, and they were both thanked for their service and professionalism in looking after the health of the people of Portlaw and further afield, for over 30 years.

The couple were in great demand for photographs with those in attendance and they also received a number of gifts and presentations as people wished to express their gratitude to them and show them how much they meant to them.
As one local commented: “It was a lovely ending to their period in Portlaw as people mingled, talked and enjoyed the cup of tea and the food.”
“They had become familiar figures in our midst, looking after the health needs of their many patients,” said the local.
“We wish them well in their retirement and thank them for their outstanding service to the area.”
The replacement doctor for the health centre is Dr Ciaran Cassidy, from the Model County, Wexford.
