Four carparks in Dungarvan are to close from 5pm this evening in preparation for Storm Bram.

The carparks on Davitt’s Quay, The Pond, the Lookout and Castle Street are at risk of flooding, according to Waterford City and County Council.

Roads director at the council Gabriel Hynes, said Motorists are advised not to travel if the journey is not necessary.

“If you must travel, motorists are advised to slow down, be mindful of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists, increase stopping distances and watch for surface water and debris on the roads.

"Motorists should also avoid driving through flowing or standing water as the depth of the water can be deceptive,” said Mr Hynes.

Waterford City and County Council say the severe weather assessment team will continue to monitor the situation around the county and ground crews will be on stand-by.

Sandbags are available to the public at Waterford City and County Council’s Machinery Yard in Dungarvan and at the depot in Carrickphierish.
