Eight Waterford artists receive €133,000 in Arts Council funding

The Arts Council has announced a nationwide allocation of €4.3 million to 258 artists across Ireland, with individual awards of up to €20,000 to support research, professional development and artistic practice.
In addition to the 258 artists, eight Waterford artists have been awarded a total of €133,414 under the Arts Council's latest Bursary Award Scheme.
Among the Waterford recipients were Philip Ryan, who received €20,000 for arts participation, and Pax Ó Faoláin, who was awarded €20,000 in the traditional arts category.
Rachel Ní Bhraonáin received €19,900 for dance, while Muireann Ní Shé was awarded €19,964 for traditional arts.
Daniel Kearney received €19,700 for music, and Ksenia Parkhatskaya was awarded €13,850 for street arts. Rose Keating and Holly Pickering each received €10,000 for literature and visual arts, respectively.
The Arts Council said the bursary scheme is designed to provide artists with the time and resources needed to research, reflect and develop their practice.
Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O'Donovan said: "Ireland's reputation as a cultural powerhouse is reliant on a strong state support for artists. In providing over 250 artists from right across Ireland with time and opportunity to develop their artistic practice, these awards recognise the intrinsic value of the arts and the benefits they bring to our society."
Arts Council Director Moling Ryan said the awards would support artists in further developing Ireland's creative culture.
