Duke Special to perform intimate gig in Waterford
Duke Special will be performing at the Comeragh Wilds festival.
Duke Special is to headline an intimate gig in County Waterford.
The acclaimed songwriter will perform in the exquisite surroundings of Clonagam Church, in Portlaw, as part of this year's Comeraghs Wild Festival.
A spokesperson for the festival organisers said the gig promises to be another unforgettable cultural highlight of the summer.
Taking place as part of the festival programme, which will run from July 9 to 12, this unique performance promises an atmospheric evening in one of the region’s most distinctive and cherished venues.
"Renowned for its magical setting, Clonagam Church has become a much-loved space during the festival, hosting memorable performances that blend music and ambience in a truly special way," said the spokesperson.
"Audiences in recent years have experienced remarkable shows from artists such as Moylan and Anam Choir, establishing the venue as a standout highlight of the festival programme," she added.
Duke Special, the musical moniker of Belfast’s Peter Wilson, brings with him a rich and eclectic career shaped by curiosity and creativity.
With 14 albums and EPs released and performances spanning the globe, he is known for blending elements of music, theatre, poetry and storytelling into deeply engaging live shows. His work extends beyond the stage, including composing music for Mother Courage and Her Children at London’s National Theatre and creating original compositions for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
A passionate live performer, he continues to captivate audiences whether performing solo, in collaboration with long-time percussionist Chip Bailey, or alongside larger ensembles.
The announcement of the Duke Special gig forms part of a growing and exciting music line-up for the 2026 festival.
Earlier announcements included a lively outdoor show at Cooney’s Yard featuring The Frank and Walters alongside Rúaile Búaile.
That gig promises to be an energetic night of music in a unique mountain setting. Festivalgoers can also look forward to another standout event at Woodhouse Estate, where the stunning surroundings will once again provide the backdrop for featuring the rich harmonies of The Backyard Band and the spellbinding collective sound of White Horse Guitar Club for a night of warmth, connection and unforgettable live music.
