A Wexford man has been disqualified from driving after he crashed into a construction site in Ferrybank.

Stephen Kinsella (38), of 58 Southknock, New Ross, was before Waterford District Court charged with dangerous driving and driving without insurance on the Dock Road in Ferrybank on June 26, 2024.

The court was told that on the day of the incident, the defendant had crashed into a construction site, colliding with bollards and a pedestrian had had “to jump out of the way”.

The man did not have insurance at the time.

The court heard that the defendant had 13 previous convictions, most of which were under the Road Traffic Act.

Acting for the defendant, solicitor Hilary Delahunty acknowledged that the court had no choice but to impose a disqualification.

But he asked the judge to “use his discretion” and only disqualify his client for the minimum of two years.

He said his client was currently out of work because of a shoulder injury, but not being able to drive would hamper his efforts at employment.

Judge John Cheatle said the defendant had “saved the court time” in entering a guilty plea, and for that, he would give him credit.

The judge imposed a two-year disqualification for each offence but said that they would run concurrently.

He also imposed a €300 fine for not having insurance.
