Distinguished poet to read in Waterford next week

Vona Groarke
Vona Groarke, who has recently been appointed Ireland Professor of Poetry, is the featured writer at the next edition of the SpeakEasy literary event, taking place on Friday 24 October in Phil Grimes Pub at 8pm.
This event is part of Waterford Writers' Weekend, and will see Vona read from her extensive body of work.
She will also be in conversation with West Waterford poet Molly Twomey, who is the author of two poetry collections.
Vona Groarke is the author of fifteen collections of poetry.
Her most recent collection, Infinity Pool, has been shortlisted for this year's TS Eliot Prize.
Her 'Selected Poems' was awarded the 2017 Piggott Prize for Best Irish Poetry Collection.
Recently, Vona succeeded Paul Muldoon to become the tenth Ireland Professor of poetry, and she is currently Writer in Residence at St John's College, Cambridge, a role she will hold until 2026.
Music will be provided on the night by French Connection, an experienced trio of musicians which includes Gerard O'Neill, Francie White and Nicky White.
They will play a selection of jazz favourites, delivered in a warm, accessible style.
Local writers and poets will also have a chance to share their work during the open mic session.
Entry to SpeakEasy is €5, payable on the night, cash only.
