Disqualified driver is caught out in Waterford

Caulfield, with an address at 26 Johnstown, Waterford, was driving at the time with a suspended licence due to a previous drug driving offence.

On May 30 of this year, Gardaí pulled over the vehicle of Mr. Dean Caulfield (31), whilst he was driving in Waterford city.

Caulfield, with an address at 26 Johnstown, Waterford, was driving at the time with a suspended licence due to a previous drug driving offence.

During Waterford District Court proceedings last week, his solicitor, Mr. Ken Cunningham, said that Mr. Caulfield is a young man who “took a chance”.

It was an “unfortunate decision”, he added.

He also said that Mr. Caulfield personally paid for a urine analysis sample, which returned completely clear results.

Judge Kevin Staunton said that it was a “serious offence” and that despite being disqualified previously for drug driving, Mr. Caulfield regardless “decided to drive anyway”.

He received a two-year driving disqualification.

“If he is caught driving again, a disqualification will be the least of his worries,” Judge Staunton added.
