County Waterford village embraces 'Forget me Knot' tree
The Forget Me Knot tree is in Portlaw this Christmas
The community in a county Waterford village have a 'Forget Me Knot' tree erected in the village green on which people can place bows for those who not here this year for the festive season.
The aim of the initiative is to remember people who are away, ill in hospital or who have passed away.
One of the locals said some bows were salvaged crafts from children in primary school last year and some new ones will be going up shortly this year from the Beaver's Group.
People throughout the community and beyond are encouraged to place a bow or other craft on the tree in memory of a loved one who has passed away or won't be home for Christmas.
The idea for the tree was borne 22 years ago by children from Portlaw who lost friends and missed family.
Those involved with the initiative extended gratitude to Anthony McGrath, who sponsored the tree this year in addition to erecting it with Chris Meares, PJ McGrath, ToTo and Noel Molloy. Some of the bows on the tree were made by Feana Walshe, Ronnie Walshe with help from Benny Tadge.
