Cllr Pat Dunphy elected chairperson of Kilkenny's Piltown District Council

Cllr Pat Dunphy, pictured front, second from left, with fellow councillors and members of the Kilkenny County Council Executive, has been elected Chairperson of the Piltown Municipal District.
A number of new appointments were made in the Piltown electoral area last week.
Fine Gael’s Cllr Pat Dunphy was elected new Cathaoirleach at the district’s annual AGM on Wednesday last.
Cllr Dunphy was proposed for the role by party colleague Cllr Fidelis Doherty, and seconded by former Cathaoirleach Cllr Ger Frisby.
Cllr Doherty will take up the role of Leas-Cathaoirleach, taking over from Cllr Jenny Catt Slattery.
In accepting the position, Cllr Dunphy complimented the work, which is being done in the area.
“I think we do work well as a team," Cllr Dunphy said. "We have our moments, and different ideas but, by and large, I think you have to work together for an area and I think we do that.”
Finishing out his term as Cathaoirleach, Cllr Frisby thanked Council staff and the elected members for their “politeness and cooperation”.
“I don’t think there’s anyone here to rock the boat. We all work well together and going forward will be the same for the next four years," Cllr Frisby said.
"We get the work done and that’s proven by the work that is going on in all the different areas of the district.
“We’re all here for the greater good and we’re here to serve the public at the end of the day.
"It was a pleasure chairing and I look forward to working with Pat and Fidelis now."
