A charity fundraiser has been launched in memory of Matthew Healy, to mark his birthday.

On Friday, May 17, 2024, Matthew would have turned seven-years-old.

On Sunday, May 19, the charity fundraiser will be held in Watergrasshill, Co Cork, to raise money for Make a Wish Ireland.

There will be a motorcycle and vintage car gathering/ run beginning at 1pm on the day.

The run begins at 2pm, and will be followed by food trucks and live music from 3pm until 6pm.

At time of going to press, the fundraiser had raised over €16,000 of its €20,000 target.

Make a Wish Ireland was chosen in honour of Matthew because it's "a charity which reflects Matthew’s fun and adventurous character", according to his father James.

In an interview with the Irish Examiner, the grieving father said of Matthew:

"He was mad for a bit of adventure and Make a Wish reflects that in what they do in that they give young ladeens an adventure where they possibly would not have got it otherwise."

Matthew was a Senior Infant pupil at Faithlegg National School, Co Waterford.

On March 9, he was discovered unresponsive in a car near Rathmoylan Cove, Dunmore East.

Matthew was later declared deceased at University Hospital Waterford (UHW).

Matthew's funeral was held in Watergrasshill, and was attended by family and friends.

At the funeral, his father James paid tribute to his son: “Matthew – it has been the greatest honour in my life and an absolute pleasure to be your Dad. I am so sorry I could not save you, chief. I love you."
