In the wake of strike action initiated on Thursday, December 18, by INMO and SIPTU members who are employees of Caredoc, over pay-related issues, the organisation said it has secured funding to meet the demands of strikers.
In a statement issued to Waterford News & Star, a spokesperson for Caredoc said: "Caredoc has secured sufficient HSE funding to meet the demands of INMO and SIPTU unions and to end the current strike action."
"Payment will be processed immediately to all staff, once funds are discharged by the HSE," said the spokesperson.
He also commented that the increase in funding "has been agreed to sustain Caredoc services going forward".
Waterford Council of Trade Unions members were among those who supported the INMO and SIPTU Caredoc workers on the picket lines in Waterford City on Thursday.
In an online post the WCTU said: "The workers are taking action in pursuit of an 8 per cent wage rise awarded by the WRC and which the Caredoc company is so far, refusing to pay.
"Caredoc staff are out across the South East as well, including in Carlow, Kilkenny, Clonmel, Wexford and Tipperery. WCTU is the collective voice of organised labour in Waterford, and always support our affiliate organizations when they take strike action."
The Caredoc spokesperson, in the wake of commenting that the required funding had been secured from the HSE, said: "We have requested the INMO and SIPTU unions to seek an immediate return to work tonight, in the interests of patient safety."
