The main substructure for the Sustainable Transport Bridge currently being constructed in Waterford City is due to arrive in the city in April.
In a report presented by Chief Executive of Waterford City & County Council, Sean McKeown, at the months meeting the elected members were informed that the main river works for the bridge substructure - that includes four permanent concrete river piers, two concrete bridge abutments and four temporary steel support frames are complete.
Mr McKeown said in his report that the aforementioned works are 'awaiting the arrival of the bridge superstructure from Ghent, Belgium in April'.
'The pier protection system installation is currently ongoing upstream of the bridge,' said Mr McKeown in his report. The fit-out of the bridge superstructure, with the automated mechanical and electrical plant needed for the opening of the central bridge spans, is also progressing in Belgium and the plant room to operate the bridge from the South Plaza is substantially complete.
