The Ferrybank Bottle Bank in the Aldi Car Park, in Ferrybank, on the outskirts of Waterford City is to permanently close due to ongoing issues with illegal dumping.

The bins were removed were by March 20.

A new location has yet to be chosen, but the council is exploring options to improve accessibility and reduce misuse.

In the meantime, the public are being encouraged to use Granny Civic Amenity Site located at Grannagh (X91 FF29) and they can also use Bring Banks located in Kilmacow, Glenmore Community Centre or Slieverue GAA Grounds.

The Civic Amenity Site in Granny offers facilities for recycling glass, plastics, paper, hazardous waste, garden waste, and electronics.

It's expected that Kilkenny County Council will announce the location of the new bottle bank shortly.

While some illegal dumping occurred when the bottle and clothes banks were in Lower Ferrybank, the issue worsened significantly after their relocation to Aldi Car Park.

The issue of illegal dumping at the bottle bank has been a cause of concern locally for some time with some people calling for stricter laws allowing the use of CCTV at such sites in an effort to combat illegal dumping effectively.
