The Gardaí in Waterford have issued an appeal to the public as part of their investigations into a hit and run incident that occurred in the city over the weekend that left a woman in her 70s with serious injuries.
The incident occurred on Friday, December 12, at 4.44pm in the Bawndaw area of the city - also known as Carrickphierish.
A spokesperson for the Gardaí told Waterford News & Star (waterford-news.ie) that a female pedestrian was struck by a car which failed to remain at the scene.
"People would be familiar with the library and school on this road," said the spokesperson.
"The lady, in her 70’s, sustained a fractured hip and a head injury and was taken by ambulance to UHW," she added.
Witnesses to the accident have described the vehicle as being a dark coloured Toyota Yaris with an '03KE..' registration, which didn't remain at the scene of the collision.
"If you have any information relating to this vehicle or observed it in the area, please contact Unit C at Waterford Roads Policing Unit on 051 305300," said the Garda spokesperson.
