Accomplished engineer and Ballygunner GAA stalwart, Brian Mackey is remembered

The late Brian Mackey.
The death has occurred of Brian Mackey, late of Ardkeen Village, Waterford, and formerly of Rogerstown, Kilmoganny, Co. Kilkenny.
Brian was the director of Malone O’Regan Construction, a stalwart figure at Ballygunner GAA Club and a loving family man.
Born on January 18, 1972, Brian went to school in Dunnamaggin, Co. Kilkenny, and Callan CBS. He studied civil engineering in UCD, qualifying with a masters. He travelled to Australia, before returning to lecture in Carlow IT, and then joining Malone O’Regan Construction.
As Director of Malone O’Regan, Brian had particular responsibility for projects in the food and beverage sectors.
With a very keen engineering intelligence, he was held in very high esteem by his colleagues. At his funeral mass, he was described as a great leader, who was calm and presented a wonderful attitude.
Brian’s colleagues remembered him as caring and understanding. He was a great communicator, whether that be when discussing a complex engineering project or just asking how you were.
At his funeral mass on Sunday, October 6 at St. Mary's Church, Ballygunner, Brian received a Guard of Honour from Ballygunner GAA Club.
Club Chairman, Dave Sheahan, said that Brian’s integrity, commitment, and incredible zest for Ballygunner hurling club and all it stands for in the community cannot be surpassed.
Through his coaching and mentoring up to minor level, he was very enthused and enthralled in developing the young hurlers of the future, and as Juvenille Chairman he was at the fore of the club’s strategic development.
Brian will be remembered most fondly for being an exceptionally devoted and caring family man.
He taught his children the importance of hard work, respect, love and, most importantly, family, and he always led by example. As a son to parents Ella and Matty, he was described as "exceptional".
Brian will be sadly missed by his sons Nathan and Joseph, parents Ella and Matty, brother Alan, Lynette, Auri, Pia and Leila, sister-in-law Eilis, niece Luane, uncles, aunts, extended family, neighbours and friends. May he Rest In Peace.
