“A major setback for Waterford – Funding for Local Link routes delayed

Funding for Local Link services has been delayed until 2027, marking “a major setback for Waterford.”

Cllr Catherine Burke spoke on the issue last week, saying the delay in funding under the The National Transport Authority’s (NTA) Connecting Ireland Plan means that essential Local Link services from Portlaw, Kilmacthomas, Mahon Bridge and Lemybrien have been pushed back to 2027.

“It’s a major setback for Waterford and certainly for my own Comeragh District” Cllr Burke said.

“The service is vital for connecting our communities, supporting access to jobs, education, healthcare and local amenities.

“The delay has already impacted people on the ground. Those without cars are struggling to attend appointments or access services. Students face challenges getting to education and older isolated residents are at increased risk of social isolation."

Cllr Burked asked that Mayor of Waterford City and County Council Seamus Ryan write to the NTA and Minister for Transport to highlight the impact of the delated funding, and to bring the timeline back to 2026.

She has also asked that the Comeragh Council write to the Minister and the NTA.
