The Fairlane development has reached the second stage of development, according to Walter Holden, Senior Architect at Waterford City and County Council.
At the November sitting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council meeting Mr Holden revealed key details about the new housing development.
The development will consist of 78 dwellings, a mixture of eight three-bed houses, two two-bed houses, 20 three-bed duplexes, eight two-bed duplexes, 22 two-bed apartments and 18 one-bed apartments.
Councillors at the meeting welcomed the update and thanked Waterford City and County Council for all their hard work.
Cllr Cronin said, “It’s good to see this development moving on. There’s a lot of houses in that development to be fair. Every house that can be built at this stage is the most important thing because it puts a roof over a family, a roof over a retired couple that needs it."
Cllr Nugent welcomed the development but raised concerns about parking, noting that many households now have two cars rather than one.
Mr Holden replied: “The parking is in compliance with the development plan. Is it what you’d like to see? I don’t know the answer to that. Some councillors like to see no parking and some councillors like to see a load of parking. We have to look into sustainable transport for the future, that is what this scheme has been designed for.”
Cllr Phelan also had questions for Mr Holden. After expressing his approval of the development, he asked: “Apart from Fairlane, are we looking at any potential smaller locations in Dungarvan? If you look at an aerial view, you can still see sites. There are large forgotten tracts of land. I know we’ve just started Fairlane but I’m eager to keep it up.”
Mr Holden replied: “We don’t just concentrate on one project, there’s a number of other projects that we’re working on.”
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage James Brown has said that the development is expected to be completed by 2028.
