The submitted plans for the development

A major housing development on the outskirts of Waterford city has been refused permission to commence.

The development plans consisted firstly of the demolition and removal of two existing agricultural structures in Kilbarry. A total of 243 dwellings were then planned to be constructed at the site.

The proposal comprised of houses and apartments.

The planned childcare facility ranged in height between one and two storeys, and included a private outdoor play area and dedicated vehicle parking/drop-off spaces.

A large amount of appeals were submitted by concerned locals regarding the development, and this week, Waterford City and County Council refused permission.

In deciding to refuse permission, Waterford Council outlined that the development did not comply with objectives set out in the Waterford City and County Development Plan.

The local authority also said that agricultural traffic movement from an existing farm via the proposed development would endanger public safety.

The proposed development would detract from the residential amenity of existing residential properties in the surrounding area, the Council further stated.
