Ireland's renting crisis has been laid bare with figures and anecdotes.

Young people, young families, and college students in particular are feeling the pressure.

The latest figures from Daft.ie have shown that, not only is there a shortage of homes available to rent, but there is an average open-market rent of over €2,000 per month.

There were almost 2,300 homes available to rent nationwide on August 1st. This is down 14 per cent year-on-year and close to half the 2015-2019 average for availability of homes to rent.

The average open-market rent nationwide between April and June was €2,055 per month, up from a low of just €765 in 2011 and 51 per cent higher than before the outbreak of Covid-19.

Here are the prices of some houses and apartments that are up for rent, as advertised on Daft.ie, as well as each county's most expensive property to rent.

The list starts with the county with the most expensive property to rent and works its way down. Unsurpringly, we start in the country's capital.

Dublin

The most expensive place to rent in Dublin on Daft.ie that is not classified as a 'luxury let' is a 5-bedroom, 7-bathroom home in Ballsbridge.

A month's rent for the home in Dublin 4 costs €16,300 per month.

A 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom flat in Dublin's Blackrock will set you back €3,295 per month.

A 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment in Howth costs €2,150 per month.

€4,500 per month is the rate for a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom flat on Tara Street in Dublin 2.

A 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom place on New Wapping Street will cost €2,400 per month, while a studio apartment with the same company will set you back €2,100 per month.

In south Dublin, a 3-bedroom flat in Killiney costs €4,750, while a 1-bedroom, 1-bathoom place with the same company costs €2,100.

Westmeath

Westmeath takes second place in terms of the county with the most expensive place to rent.

A month's rent for this 6-bedroom, 5-bathroom home in Moate costs €10,000.

Included in the rental price is 40 acres which include gardens, patio, private bar, recreation room, workshop, private electric gated entrance, stables, and out buildings.

Meath

The most expensive place to rent in the Royal County on Daft.ie is this 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom home in Dunsany.

A month's rent will set you back nearly €9,000.

Offaly

A 7-bedroom, 5-bathroom home in Offaly's Ballycumber will leave you €8,000 poorer at the end of each month.

Constructed between 1805 and 1810, Bellair House was designed by the architect Richard Morrison for Thomas Homan Mulock.

Kerry

This 10-bedroom, 4-bathroom home in Co Kerry costs €6,500 per month.

It has six single bedrooms and four doubles and can be found in Killarney.

Wexford

The weekly rate for this 7-bedroom, 9-bathroom home in Co Wexford is €1,500.

Cranny's Lodge is a fully furnished former B&B located near Rosslare Harbour.

Kildare

Head to Maynooth in Co Kildare for this 6-bedroom, 3-bathroom home. The monthly rent is €6,000.

The home is located in a quiet, country neighbourhood setting close to Maynooth town centre and convenient to Leixlip and the M4 Motorway.

Wicklow

This 4-bedroom, 5-bedroom home near Delgany Village in Co Wicklow costs €5,500 per month.

It includes a large private garden, three large reception rooms, three ensuite bathrooms, and one family bathroom with a large Jacuzzi style bathtub.

Galway

Galway's most expensive place to rent is this 4-bedroom, 5-bathroom home in Clarinbridge. It will set you back €5,000 per month.

Elsewhere, a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment in Galway's Bohermore will cost €2,350 per month.

In Salthill, you'll pay per month for a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment. Between two friends looking for a room each and a shared bathroom, that works out at €1,325.

A 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom apartment in Wellpark costs €4,500 per month.

Moving away from the city, a 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom house in Barna will set you back €3,000 per month.

€1,450 per month is the rate for a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment in Tuam.

In Knocknacarra, about 5km from the city centre, a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment costs €1,827 per month.

Cork

In Glanmire, Co Cork, a 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom house costs €4,500 per month, making it the county's most expensive place to rent on Daft.ie.

A 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom flat in Cork City Centre costs €3,300 per month, while a 1-bed, 1-bathroom place will set you back €1,044 in Tower.

An apartment on Blarney Street costs €1,900 and includes 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom.

A 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment on Glasheen Road will set you back €2,800 per month.

Between you and a friend, you're looking at €1,400 each per month for a room and a shared bathroom.

Limerick

A 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom home in Limerick's Castletroy costs €4,000 per month, making it the county's most expensive place to rent on Daft.ie.

1-bedroom apartments on Limerick City's Bishops Quay range from €2,600 to €2,750 per month.

Elsewhere, a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom house in Rhebogue in the city costs €4,200 per month.

A 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment on Iona Drive costs €2,200 per month, while a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment in Castletroy comes in at €2,500 per month.

Market Place Apartments offer 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartments for €2,250 per month in the city centre.

Moving out of the city, a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom house in Adare will set you back €2,500 per month, while a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom house in O'Connell Avenue costs €3,000 per month.

Waterford

Waterford City Centre is home to the county's most expensive place to rent in the form of a 6-bedroom, 2-bathroom home for €4,000 per month.

The home has two single bedrooms and four doubles and can be found in Templar's Hall.

Louth

Co Louth's most expensive place to rent on Daft.ie is classified as a 'luxury let'. It has no mimumun lease length, and can be rented for €4,000 per month.

Located in Termonfeckin, the home has five bedrooms and four bathrooms.

Clare

Co Clare's most expensive place to rent can be found in Quin in the form of a 4-bedroom, 5-bathroom house for €3,250 per month.

Mayo

The most expensive place to rent in Co Mayo on Daft.ie is this 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom home in Murrisk.

Rent for this property, which includes four double bedrooms and one single, is €3,000 per month.

Kilkenny

This 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home in Kilkenny will cost you €2,750 per month.

Located on College Road, the home includes two double bedrooms and one single.

Carlow

A 5-bedroom, 2-bathroom home in Co Carlow's Pollerton costs €2,750, making it the county's most expensive place to rent on Daft.ie.

Tipperary

Co Tipperary's most expensive place to rent comes in the form of a 5-bedroom, 5-bathroom house in Kilsheelan.

The monthly rent there is €2,500.

Roscommon

With an identical price-tag to Tipperary's most expensive place is Roscommon's offering of a 5-bedroom, 6-bathroom home in Carrick-on-Shannon.

All the bedrooms are doubles, and property includes off street parking for a number of cars and a front and rear garden.

Laois

This 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home in Laois also costs €2,500 per month.

The home, which is situated in Kilminchy, has three double bedrooms and one single.

Leitrim

A 3-bedroom, 4-bathroom apartment in Co Leitrim will cost €2,400 per month, making it the county's most expensive place to rent on Daft.ie.

The apartment in Cootehall includes a double bedroom and a twin bedroom.

Donegal

Co Donegal's most expensive place to rent can be found along the Wild Atlantic Way.

The 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home can be rented for €2,350 per month.

Monaghan

The most expensive place to rent in Co Monaghan on Daft.ie is this 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home in Carrickmacross.

The home, located on Mullinary Street, will set you back €1,900 per month.

Sligo

A 4-bedroom, 1-bathroom home in Co Sligo costs €1,850 per month.

The county's most expensive property to rent, located in Rathonoragh, includes three double bedrooms and one single.

Longford

Longford's most expensive place to rent is the cheapest out of all the other counties in the State.
