There was no winner of this week’s lotto jackpot of €3,600. The numbers pulled were 2, 10, 11 and 24. Congratulations to Ray and Imelda, Mia and Kyle Torpey, and Will Ryan and Eddie, who matched three numbers. Best of luck to all the players.

Community Text Alert

The Community Text Alert Service is still ongoing and open to any member of the public to join. Some messages that the group send out include notifications from the Gardaí, Met Eireann and others which help to keep the community informed. Senior Alert Scheme

Kill Action Group is a registered provider for the Senior Alert Scheme which provides a personal monitored alarm for those aged 65 and over, living alone or with another person who meets the eligibility criteria and residing within the area. To enquire about or to avail of this scheme please contact Marie Whelan on 087 2871307.

Village Plan

Kill Action Group together with key stakeholders including Kill GAA club, Kill Community Centre, Kill NS parents association and Our Lady of Mount Carmel church, and others, would like to express thanks to all those who participated in our village survey. The results of the survey once collated will inform the Kill Village Plan 2025, which will be used to support funding applications for the development of community, social, economic, cultural and environmental facilities and activities in Kill into the future. If you would like to be involved in the development of the Kill Village Plan 2025, please contact any member of Kill Action Group.

Action Group AGM

The Kill Action Group will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, February 6, at 7.30pm in Kill Community Centre. New members welcome, the extra help and support would be greatly received.

Social Dancing

Jimmy Hogan and Lar Kenny brought their entertaining show to Kill Community Centre last week. This week Checkers will perform, in January 22. A firm favourite with all the dancers, they are sure to entertain. So, mark Wednesday night in your diary, from 8pm to 10.30pm. Last Sunday, Pat Daly and Art Supple delighted a wonderful crowd at Kill, the dancefloor was busy all afternoon. Next on the line-up is Andy Feery, on Sunday, January 26, who will no doubt entertain and draw a crowd. Sunday afternoon’s social dancing begins at 3pm and finishes at 6pm. 

Theatre Anniversary

This year marks the 20th anniversary of The Gealach Gorm Theatre at Kill Community Centre and lots of great shows planned for the year. What better way to start off our 20th anniversary celebrations than with John Foley's screening of his highly acclaimed documentary, 'The Aftermath', on Saturday, January 18, at 8pm. The documentary deals with the effects of the civil war in Waterford told through the eyes of descendants of those involved and local historians. John has had several sold out screenings of this documentary in Dungarvan and Waterford. Tickets now on sale on Powertik or contact 086 8569358.

Popular Return

The Very Men Back make a welcome return to the Gealach Gorm Theatre on Saturday, January 25, at 8pm. Back by popular demand the group plays a lively mix of songs, Irish traditional songs, as well as more recent songs, and also Traditional Irish dance tunes in addition to slower numbers. Their last show was a sellout so don’t delay book your tickets now on Powertik or contact 086 8569358.

The lineup includes Brian Donovan (vocals/guitar/bodhrán), who comes from a long line of singers from both sides of his family, As well as singing, Brian is also an accomplished guitarist and bodhrán player. The trio also includes Brendan Clancy (fiddle/banjo), who hails from Stradbally, Co. Waterford. He's been playing fiddle and banjo for over 25 years. Brendan also played in a group with his brother Noel Clancy (button accordion and melodeon) and his grandfather Tomás Clancy (RIP), on mouth-organ. He has also played with some of the top performers and bands in Irish traditional music including: Seamie O’Dowd, Benny McCarthy, Michael Flatley, The Awbeg Ceilí Band, The Booley House, Donnchadh Gough, Paddy Keenan, Dónal Calncy, and Ciarán Ó Gealbháin.

The third member of the group is John Nugent (guitar) who comes from Newcastle, Co Tipperary. John is a self taught guitar player and his initial musical interest was in rock music where he played with local bands Stud and Stonefree. He later developed an interest in Traditional Irish music and is well known for his guitar playing with the group, Rattle The Boards, who toured Europe, Canada and America. He has also played guitar with Des Dillon and the show Teac a bloc and also played and recorded with internationally known artists such as Gerry 'Banjo' O’Connor, Danú, and Liam Clancy (RIP), among others. 

For this show they will be joined by Ciarán Ó Gealbháin, a musician and singer from An Sean-Phobal, in the Waterford Gaeltacht. He has travelled extensively in the past with the Irish traditional music group, Danú, with whom he recorded two albums. He has a deep interest in the music and song of his native region and has won numerous prizes for his traditional singing, including Corn na bhFear at Oireachtas na Gaeilge 2012 and again in 2023. Awarded Amhránaí na Bliana, Gradaim Ceoil TG4 in 2001, he was recently awarded of the prestigious Gradam Shean-Nós Cois Life (2023). He has recorded both as a solo artist and with various ensembles over the years.
