105th Dungarvan Show a phenomenal success

The Irish Shows Association and Dungarvan Show Three-Year Old Filly All Ireland Championship, sponsored by Liberty Blue Estate Agents, Darragh O’Connor, Regina Mangan, John Walsh (winner).
The 105th Dungarvan Show was held on Sunday, July 14, at Ballygagin, Dungarvan, in a beautiful setting under glorious sunshine to the delight of the huge crowd.

Lots of entertainment was on offer, including a passenger train that travelled around the show field, a great display of classic and vintage cars and farm machinery, including steam engines, tractor pulling and an interactive blacksmith demo and mobile forge.
The dog show had lots of entries as always and gave away lots of wonderful treats.
The new seating proved a great hit located in front of the stage where live music and sensational line dancing got everybody involved!
The visit from An Taoiseach Simon Harris was the icing on the cake. The Taoiseach allowed plenty of time for people to come and chat and he even joined in the line dancing where the local dancers demonstrated the moves!

In the ridden hunter ring, Brian Murphy took the Championship and was best four-year-old on his grey middle weight owned by Glen Knight; the four-year-old lightweight winner was Princess, owned by Brendan Tobin and ridden by Rosemary Connors.
Champion working hunter went to Claire O’Rourke and Stephanie Moore was reserve. Champion Young Horse went to Patrick Cotter for his winning three-year-old and Henry Carey’s two-year-old gelding went reserve. John Hyde had the champion brood mare. The Irish Shows Association three-year-old filly All Ireland Championship, sponsored by Liberty Blue Estate Agents, went to John Walsh from Dunmanway, Co Cork. The Champion Ridden Pony was ridden by Cian Cusack and his brother, Conor, filled the reserve spot.
The show jumping entries were up hugely on previous years and didn’t disappoint. Seamus Hayes jumped to victory in the Connolly Red Mills Munster Grand Prix, ahead of brothers, Tadhg and Paul Beecher, who fought it out for 2nd and 3rd respectively.
The 4th leg of the Mackey Ireland Waterford SJI A & AA Amateur league sponsored by NutriScience Equine was won by Shauna Furlong ahead of Sharon Power with local rider, Heather Ahearne taking third.
Gary Flynn won the AA section with Hannah McNiven in 2nd and Derrik Burke in 3rd.

Josephine Townsend claimed top spot in the Carleton Stable/Munster Region 1.15m League sponsored by George Corbett Motors and Andrew Hodgins took pole position in the Sweet Oak Farm/Munster Region 1.25m League sponsored by Fennels Garage & Phelan’s Fuel and Hardware.
Wonderful to see so many children taking part in the jumping classes and coming up through the ranks.

The dairy classes this year were a great success. Class 1 had 16 fabulous dairy calves on show. The popular winner Bourkeholme Lambda was exhibited by the Bourke family from Cork.
Class 2 showed us a lovely selection of in calf dairy heifers with the winner coming from Laois, Seanacourt Jean. Class 3, our super cow class, had five fantastic dairy cows on display and was a tightly fought race with Archersrath Atwood Gremlin winning it for the Roche family from Kilkenny.
The beef classes were as always well supported. The Hereford section had some remarkable animals on show with the overall champion going to Cloncaugh Robbie for the Behan family from Kilmacthomas, closely followed by the Barrett family with their young bull Gurtaleen Inchvale Rebel.
The Aberdeen Angus classes were a masterclass for J & A de Cogan winning overall Aberdeen Angus and Beef champion with Corlismore Tomahawk.
The Limousin winner Aglish Tara was a very popular local winner, exhibited by Chloe Moore.
The Pat Denn class was a spectacular selection of beef cattle with first and second going to the Herefords. The winner was exhibited by the Behan family with Cloncaugh Robbie.
The Junior Stock Person class had 13 entries all showing excellent displays of handling and exhibiting their animals. Georgina Hynes was the winner giving a masterclass in handling and showing her heifer calf. It was great to see so many young exhibitors and hopefully they will continue to support and participate in the show in the years to come.
The organisers were thrilled with how the event went.
"Overall, it was a terrific display of animals and great day all round, our sponsors are fantastic, and we appreciate their support. We would like to thank everyone who supports and helps with the cattle section of the show," they said.
"We are thoroughly indebted to our wonderful landowners, the Broderick, Queally, Shanley and Whelan families, sponsors, judges, stewards, hospitality helpers and volunteers who help with setting up, parking and closing down the show.
"Thank you to all for attending the show and making it an incredible success. The show now in its 105th year is a testament to everyone involved and we welcome anyone interested in coming on board and joining our 'Show Family'. Contact us through our Facebook page for more information. We look forward to welcoming you all to next year’s show."
