Full time: Republic of Ireland 2-0 Portugal

It is a night to remember for Irish football as the Republic of Ireland defeated Portugal 2-0 in the World Cup qualifier at the Aviva Stadium.

In arguably the biggest win in the Aviva Stadium since the win over Germany in 2015, Troy Parrott's first-half double has ensured Ireland go to Hungary with a chance of reaching the play-offs.

All eyes were on Portugal's number seven, Ronaldo, but his red card in the second half summed up Portugal's frustrations.

The biggest win of Hallgrisson's time in charge, victory has brought huge enthusiasm across the country.

All eyes are now on Sunday. Should Ireland win, they are in the play-offs. If Hungary avoid defeat, the dream has ended, but this will always be a night to remember.

94th minute: Portugal has a couple of half-chances through Ramos and Neves, but it looks like a night to remember for Ireland.

91st minute: Portugal pushes and pushes, but can't break Ireland down, as Veiga blazes a shot over.

Ruben Neves has a shot from distance straight at Kelleher.

89th minute: Johnston couldn't make up his mind as his shot was blocked with Idah with him for support.

Seven minutes of added time.

87th minute: Great save from Kelleher as he keeps out a header from Ramos, Ireland clears the corner.

A first save of the second half for the Cork man.

84th minute: Good work for Festy Obesele to win a corner, which Ireland managed to keep possession after it was cleared.

It ends with Ogbene hitting a shot wide after some good defending from Dalot. Mickey Johnston and Jimmy Dunne for Ogbene and Liam Scales.

80th minute: 10 minutes of normal time for Ireland to hold on, expect a lengthy amount of time added in due to the red card.

Portugal looks for a gap, a drop in concentration, but it is not happening.

75th minute: Penalty shouts for Ireland for a possible handball against Samedo, looking at the replays, he can consider himself fortunate Ireland doesn't have a penalty.

74th minute: Ireland have a rare attack in the second half, with Idah holding the ball up well to bring others into the game.

Finn Azaz's shot goes out for a corner.

70th minute: Rafael Leao couldn't make proper contact from Dalot's shot, and Ireland were fortunate as they got away with a rare lapse of concentration in defence. Dara O’Shea just about did enough.

67th minute: Parrott comes off the pitch to a standing ovation as Adam Idah will be the man leading the line.

Conor Coventry comes on for Jack Taylor in midfield.

62nd minute: Ogbene almost made it three straight away as his shot was dragged past the far post, with Ireland unable to take a chance from the resulting corner.

60th minute: RONALDO RED CARD: Cristiano Ronaldo has been sent off for an elbow on Dara O'Shea!

It was originally given as a yellow, before a VAR review made the referee upgrade his decision to red. A complete moment of madness as Portugal is down to 10.

52nd minute: Portugal's frustration is starting to show as Ronaldo drags a shot wide, no changes from Ireland so far.

The Second half is underway, in what will feel like the longest 45 minutes of some players' careers.

Portugal started quickly, with Vitinha just unable to connect with a corner properly. Portugal has had all the possession, but Ireland has cleared everything that has come their way so far.

Troy Parrott has put football fans across the country in dreamland at half-time as his two goals have given the Republic of Ireland a 2-0 lead over Portugal at the Aviva Stadium.

Parrott put Ireland ahead in the 17th minute with a well-worked corner converted by the Ireland striker.

The 23-year-old doubled the lead in the 45th minute with his shot, squeezing in the bottom corner to put Heimir Hallgrimsson's side in charge.

It could have been 3-0 had Chiedozie Ogbene's effort not hit the post, but nobody watching at home or in the stadium will complain that Ireland has done what is needed so far.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Dalot, Joao Felix and Joao Neves all had chances for Portugal, but Ireland have held firm and have an advantage to hold on to in the second half.

Earlier this evening, Hungary defeated Armenia 1-0, meaning Ireland must avoid defeat tonight to have any chance of qualification for the play-offs.
