Irish Angus Schools Competition a Ploughing highlight for Waterford boys

The Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition was a highlight of the National Ploughing Championships, offering second-level students an opportunity to gain practical experience in agriculture, including two enterprising boys from Tramore's Ardscoil na Mara.
Daniel O’Neill and Edward Moore from Ardscoil Na Mara were among the students presented with Irish Angus-cross calves at the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore.
Under the programme, students are tasked with rearing five Irish Angus calves over an 18-month period, while also completing a research project.
Five finalist school groups received their calves during the National Ploughing Championships, which they will now bring home and rear. Students will benefit from the proceeds when the animals are eventually sold, while the overall winners will receive a €2,000 bursary towards further education.
Applications are also now open for the next cycle of the competition, with Transition Year students able to apply until October 31.
