Investigation launched after woman found dead in Waterford home

An investigation has been launched after a woman was found dead in a home in Co Waterford.
Gardaí were alerted after the woman’s body was found in a home at Ardsallagh near Youghal Bridge after 2pm on Monday.
The woman, believed to be aged in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The scene has been preserved for forensic examination and the coroner and state pathologist have been notified.
The results of a post-mortem examination will assist in determining the course of inquiries, Gardaí said.
The services of the Garda Technical Bureau have also been requested to assist with the investigation.
A senior investigating officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Dungarvan Garda Station.
A Garda family liaison officer (FLO) has also been appointed to support the family.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and for those with camera footage of the area, in particular those who were in the Ardsallagh or Youghal Bridge areas in recent days.
